Hardware and
Software Support
What is Hardware and
Software Support?
Hardware and Software Support is a multi-layered IT maintenance solution, combining both remote and on-site work to support your business. Hardware support encompasses all physical IT components of your business, keeping them well-maintained and working optimally. Software support involves the monitoring of your systems and end-user programs (such as emails and web browsers), with proactive and reactive measures taken to keep everything running smoothly and securely.
Additionally, hardware and software support can involve assistance with purchasing new products for your business. Without market knowledge, it can be difficult to know which devices will best serve your business – and it can be even more difficult to find the best deals. As we move deeper into the digital age, more and more SMEs will have no choice but to upgrade their IT infrastructure. A daunting task if you were to go it alone.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Hardware and Software?
Hardware is the physical parts of the device and visible components such as the monitor, CPU and keyboard.
Software is the non-physical parts which enable the hardware to do its job. Software refers to apps and scripts of programmes that run on your device. Most software now has gone from being a one-time purchase model to a subscription model, such as Microsoft Office or Adobe. You can still buy the Microsoft apps as a standalone product but the subscription is way more cost effective!
What Hardware do you work with?
Our engineers are experienced and trained to use all manufacturers and models of hardware, and have a high level understanding of networking theory enabling them to work with all equipment. Our preference for the small business market is typically Ubiquiti networking hardware, either the UniFi WiFi and switch range, or Edge switches.
We have an in house UniFi management server where we proactively monitor and update our clients networking configurations centrally, and also work with our clients, vendor portals.
For small business firewalls and routers we widely utilise Draytek for basic installs, and prefer PfSense Netgate systems for enhanced security and performance installs.
What is Firmware?
Firmware is the bridge between hardware and software, which helps hardware to run smoothly and also helps to connect with the software. Firmware is periodically updated by the manufacture but if any issues arise you can check if your PC needs a firmware update by these steps:
- Open the settings menu on your PC
- Choose Windows Update
- Then Advanced Options
- Next, Option Updates which is where you will find any firmware updates available.
